Synopsis

Set in a modern day parliament, this extract tells the story of Strephon (a shepherd, struggling to make a living in the borough of Westminster) and his lover, Phyllis who is a ward of the Lord Chancellor.

The Lords, who sit in 'the other place', are content to enjoy privileges due to their accident of birth - a duck house here, a second home there and the odd tabloid relationship - and never question the civil servants, secretaries and researchers who actually run the show!

But these good 'fairies' have another agenda. They want to help Strephon and Phyllis to live happily ever after and so they ensure he has a glittering career in government, creating the perfect coalition between Liberal and Tory and making headlines on a daily basis with his radical 'new' politics.

In order to protect Phyllis from two particular peers who want to marry her, and the unwanted attentions of the Lord Chancellor himself, Strephon's mother (an enchanting creature who is working undercover as a cleaner to stay close to her son AND her secret love) must expose all and sell her story!

Performing the original score in all it's glory, this new spin on the “kiss and tell” story involves government officials, secrets and lies and a final expose worthy of the News of the World! Is political corruption just a fairy story? No, Like Gilbert & Sullivan - it's timeless!

All the characters in this much loved G&S will be included in the extract but there may be the odd surprise to keep you on your toes!
